It’s insightful to think on Paul’s family coming to his rescue in Acts 23:16-22. First, this tells us that his family was at least sympathetic towards Paul, but they were perhaps even believing Christians. Second, it tells us that his family–specifically Paul’s sister and her son–loved Paul enough to risk their lives for him; it is no small thing for Paul’s nephew to be spying on Paul’s behalf and then take his intel to the Antonia Fortress where Paul was being held. Last, these passages demonstrates how God uses family to provide support and relief for one another. If we think through the scriptural accounts, ranging across all of our canon, we see that families are not only the building blocks of God’s kingdom, but also its main defense system.
