Critics who want to deal with the name Alma, and having lost the assertion that it is an anachronism, have shown a high level of mental dexterity in now pivoting to the claim that it was a common male name in Joseph’s day after all. Given that relevant census data is not proving helpful, however, where to will their next pivot be? Is mea culpa in their vocabulary? It’s Latin too after all.
