As always, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the writings of Jeff Lindsay. The recommendation has been duly noted.
One query I have that I have not been able to grasp is why there seems to be little directive from the Church in regard to the Apocrypha (is it one of the ‘best books’ as D&C teaches)?
Jeff Notes “Latter-day Saints, unfortunately, have tended to ignore the Apocrypha, but there is value that we should be extracting.” I agree 100% there is value, yet why is it ignored (by church curriculum and the general membership at large)?
Is it because there are many members who simply don’t need to know what’s in it? Many, perhaps, will live their life without a sound understanding of the Old Testament (and the Apocrypha), yet will ‘do’ those things required to ‘…live with Him some day’.
I don’t expect the Apocrypha to be canonized as part of the standard works, yet it certainly demands attention to students of the scriptures.
