David Seely, a professor in the Department of Ancient Scripture, will speak Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a Brigham Young University campus devotional.

His lecture is titled “Created in the Image and Likeness of God.”

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast and archive information will be available at byutv.org or speeches.byu.edu.

Seely has earned many accolades during his tenure as professor including an Alcuin Fellowship in 2004. He and his wife JoAnn were named Honors Co-Professors of the Year in 2006. Early in his career, from 1984-1987, he was an assistant to David Noel Freedman, the editor of the Anchor Bible Dictionary, and contributed articles in that edition.

Seely received a bachelor’s degree from BYU in Greek in 1981 and a master’s degree from BYU in Classics in 1982. He received both a master’s degree and a doctorate in ancient and Biblical studies from the University of Michigan in 1985 and 1990, respectively.
